Hi all...I was channel surfing the other day and came across a commercial on the discovery channel saying that 1 in every 4,000,000 lobsters would be born blue...It didn't say whether it was the marine or freshwater kind, Is this true and does it mean that the freshwwater blue lobster is RARE? :nilly:
 
its the marine kind lol
freshwater bluelobsters are actually quite common
 
The "blue lobsters" of the aquarium trade are actually crayfish. No true lobster occurs in freshwater.
 
The town grocery store I work at, base their marketing scheme around their saltwater true blue lobster. They made towels, hats, shirts, and a cafe all around the blue lobster which we keep in a chilled 75 gal, i think, or maybe 100gal, tank. I am not sure where they get them from though, all I know is that they cost a pretty penny.
 
Yeah read about that as well. I also saw an article on a lobster that was half blue and half red. Like straight down its middle like left and right not tale and head
 
Freshwater lobsters are not lobsters but crayfish. There is a huge difference. Here in florida I catch blue crayfish all the time in creeks and canals. They are real common and taste like regular crayfish. There are Maine lobsters (more common) which have large mandibles and Florida lobsters which have real small mandibles. If the discovery channel called it a lobster then that is what it is and not a crayfish or crawfish or crawdad or whatever u want to call it. Most common edible lobsters (not the ones u buy for saltwater tanks) but the ones caught for eating have a red and underlying blue coloration to them, just like a blue crab. Some are going to show recessive color more than others just like an albino human. Some could be all blue or all red or have some of both. There are probably more blue lobsters than they think.
