I agree with Cook I don't believe these are dyed. I saw when ECZS brought them in a few months ago. Nobody mentioned anything about them being dyed. Only that they were very rarely seen. Sweet pick up man.

Thanks unknownuza13, John's pic is exactly what mine look like. The body shape is much rounder than the standard silver dollar (more elongated, with clear "head" definition). They were in a tank along with Metynnis argenteus and Myloplus rubripinnis and looked clearly different and were not contaminants since they were marked separately. I agree the red color is striking, but I don't understand how some MFKers can't believe nature can come up with a bright red spot on a silver fish who's relatives have bright red fins :screwy: .

Mr Pleco: I was thinking Metynnis luna as well, but there's too little info to go on.
There are lots of different metynnis that are rare in the hobby. Next thing you know people will be saying "wide-bar" black-bar metynnis are "tattooed" to have wider bars!

I just picked up one. I can garuntee you that this thing is NOT dyed/tattooed.

He was in a tank with several other different kinds of silver dollars and besides the bright red spot the biggest difference was clear fins and on its anal fin the first ray seems thicker as well as having a "taupe" color to it.

Pics will be up later tonight.

How much should I have paid for him?

He was the only one. I paid $14.35 OTD.

Was that $45 a piece?

He is now in my tank and the black spot above the red spot that I didnt notice at the LFS is showing up and looking nice. He also has a great purple sheen to his dorsal side.

What are their latin name?
