Rarest Monster Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rarest one?? Let's not forget Polypterus ansorgii. There are NONE of these fish in captivity at all so the price of one can't be estimated. In fact....according to Frank Schaefer in the Aqualog Polypterus book, there are only three known preserved specimens!

Now THAT is a rare fish!

Channa Barca. Only 6-7 know in captivity. Very rare in the wild. A pair for sale in the UK for £5000. about $9000 i think.

5 in captivity, 3 preserved. including two that are for sale in the UK.

Copied form a Uk magazine artical.

"Most people have never seen a single specimen alive, even if they may have lived their whole life along the riverbanks of its natural distribution area."

Tom says that the species is so rare that even museum collections have very small numbers of preserved fish available for study.

He told us: "Although the species was described in 1822, worldwide, as far as I know, there are only eight specimens in total.

"One specimen is privately owned and kept in a tank in Switzerland; two were shipped to Japan and their whereabouts is not known, and the remaining three specimens are preserved in Asian museum collections."

what about the hopilas microlepis? arent they rare?

The platinum asian aro is one... i forgot how much it was but its more than a downpayment for a house!

They had a platinum aro for sale at a store when I first started the hobby... I didn't know what it was and decided that 160 USD was too much for a fish...
