just got home, and the back portion of my retics ray disc is whiteish, just the back tips, i dont remeber this being like that last night. is this normal?
thanks
john
temp was at about 80, just raised it to 86, it lies around, then swims and acts normal, then lies around, and i am feeding black worms, but he isnt eating them....
edit. i just realized my new tiretrack eel hides under the ray, could this be a problem. The eel doesnt seem to be bother the ray though
keep it at 86. This will build up the slime coat quicker, been through this many times in the past. Been keeping rays for 17 years, add a small amount of salt ( 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, only add the salt one time. Make sure other fish are not nipping at the disc. If so, try to move the ray to its own tank, but this has to done carfully if you move the ray. Make SURE the water is the same, in other words take a 20 or 30 gallon tank and fill it with the tank water the ray is in right now and then move him / her.
Lights off. This is all you can do at this point. Eels have been know to be nippy , so keep an eye out. Is the disc curling?
NO ray should be kept less than 84 degrees, this is a proven fact . Any experienced ray keeper knows this is fact. Follow the rules and all should be ok.
If not curling this is a good thing, sounds to me fish nipping is going on or ammonia burn, re test and make sure your test kit is not too old or bad. Other fish can take ammonia differently than rays, ammonia effects rays very fast and hard, even small amounts of it.
