actually the base looks thick for a retic. atleast it does in the second picture. its the end of the tail that looks thin.
but its just from two front view pictures.
i dont see a sunken stomach..dent or bones so i dont think its the feeding. depending what you are feeding him.
Take a closer look at the second pic. I see what you're talking about venom, but upon closer inspection, I think the left side of the tail base is actually just a glass smudge or something.
you are right..in the first picture there is the smudge in the upper left corner.
But i still dont see a ray that has been starved. what i see is the same thing i say on my old retic.
its all i can go by. again..i hope i am wrong.
a healthy retics (or any ray) tail should reach each side of the edge of the disc, where it comes into the body. not a large gap between disc edge and tail
for a juvie or adult, yes.
this thing is about 4" i would bet going off the size of the sand.
and i am not saying the tail isnt skinny..im just saying its not too skinny and either is the ray.
so lets break it down.
we have:
1. not getting enough food.
2. getting a disc infection.
3. parasite...
ok..what else?
what about your lights? any changes in bulb?
Try dosing tank with Prazi Pro. It heals tape worms, gill flukes, internal parasites etc. I dosed my tank after my female ray got skinny from starving her for too long and was mass feeding her after but she wasn't fattening up. After medicating the tank she's a lot better now. It doesn't hurt to try. It's like a quarantine med.
dont treat ur ray with anything till u no what it is........ rays colors change from many things....he does look pretty skinny by lookinga t the tail base. if hes feeding aggressively and u see no signs of infection then leave it be.
