I have wondered about the plants in Firemedics tank. If I remember, he has them in his sump but they don't appear to be large plants. I have mine growing across the top of my tank, up the wall, and off to the window sills. Some of the vines are 6-8' long now.

I have 9 marimo balls in my sump, they don't seem to do much though. Maybe I should try more plants of different varieties.

I probably do overfeed though. I go through massivore like candy. Probably through in 200 pellets last night and they were gone in less than 5 minutes.

Once the pond is dug and completed the RTC and TSN will be out of the tank. I suppose they're causing a lot of waste as well.

I used a old overflow box and drilled holes in the bottom. I run my water over filter floss then through post scrubbers. then i have my water column in the sump full of scrubbies mostly submerged. I also have some pothos growing in the water.

Holy good God that looks crazy! But I bet it kicks butt and has"success" written all over it.
