Ray Tankmates - Diamond Sturgeon??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a feeling you might need a chiller for sturgeons. i have read that they might survive in room temp when small, but as they get bigger they'll need cold water.
they sell live sturgeon in supermarkets here in kiev. i have asked and they do have chillers in those tanks

Why do some people insist on turning every thread into a controversy?? Are you T1's twin brother?? LOL

Seriously though... have you ever kept an arowana, RTC, clown knife, GATF, or any other monster species?? If so, I really hope you have a giant pond or lake that you're raising them in. Otherwise, I consider you irresponsible and a hypocrite :) NOW, GET OFF MY THREAD lmao!!!!!

Anyone else have an actual opinion on keeping sturgeon with rays??

No, I have never attempted to keep any of those, lovely as they are, I just couldn't house them. I have refused to supply /sell them though. When does trial and error become niaive cruelty? Probably when you keep two fish with massively different needs in a tank that it too small?

By the way, that is my opinion which you invited on an open forum, if you only want positive answers then you are in the wrong place (reality)
No, I am not related to T1.

Thanks for everyone who commented...but;

Not sure why this bothers me so much, but I did some lookin at your past threads and you have a fairly small tank to house rays in... IMO. PETA is gonna eff your world up.

NOW, just toby... how 'bout ya STFU and stay off my threads :)

Gracias!

Sorry for the crappy video... all I have for now. Added another bd/leo since and replaced the pbass with a big aro. Also, added a flagtail that has removed all that nasty algae.

i would get rid of the flagtail now its got rid of all the green its next stop will be sucking on the rays

as for sturgeon it wont work they need cold water and with the higher temp you will need much more air in the tank

your tank just about looks wide enough for the rays let alone 4 x 1m long sturgeons who can bend and turn that well

Yes, I didn't see the Neanderthal response to my post either. My tank is 300 gals currently with 500 gal in the pipeline, I am in the lucky position to have a 4000 sq ft house and deep pockets so my rays will be fine. Still will not keep sturgeon and would not stoop to that sort of language either, even if in abbreviated form.

I know threads a bit old but was wondering how the sturgeons are doing?

Doing well, but in a tank of their own due to their smaller size. My rays are quite aggressive toward anything that they can detain underneath their disks and take bites out of!

Your tank looks very long and very deep but how wide is it ?

sturgeon are a great fish but need more food the warmer the temp in the winter months in the cold they hardly eat at all I don't know how good it will be for them to be kept in warm weather all year round

They also have the same sort of swimming paturn as lince cat and stingrays will put up with the fast movement above them but they don't like it much as my rays stopped breeding until my lince at had gone

Give it a go by all means we all learn by our mistakes and it may work you never know

BUT when I first met my wife she had a indoor koi tank I I said hey let's get a sturgeon and we got one 2 days later it was dead we thought it was just bad luck so got another and 4 days later dead the pond shop told us they can't tolerate even room temp well unless the tank has lots and lots air in the tank

As for caviar don't you need to kill the female to get her eggs that's why it's so expensive
