Rays eating from the top

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is the most bizarre ray behavior I have ever seen. Cool if it is just something he has picked up however having none of us ever seen it before makes me worry that something is bothering him. But as you know as ray keepers we over analyze every little thing our rays do that is slightly out of the norm.

Personally I just thought it was because he was a legend!

He eats extremely well, and the tank get's a lot of maintenance as I mentioned. I hand feed him whitebait and shrimp as treats, he eats bloodworms and hikari carnisticks daily. 3 healthy bass in the tank with him. Tank normally stays around 28-30c as it's hot as **** here... but yeah I feel confident that everything is good.

I must admit... I am now extremely paranoid! yet at the same time.. supremely confident he is 100% fine. Interesting.... He just really digs though floating sticks I reckon! seems odd something would be wrong causing him to do that, while at the same time mid flip he decides to grab a mouthful.

Thanks for all the comments though... he is a awesome fella! Pretty interesting cross.. with his sort of unfilled in spots. A few going around for sale here atm, even my LFS has a tiny on e from the same parents.

edit: thanks for that link to the post. Made me feel even more confident!right now he is chilling on the log in the tank, going up and down it having fun.

Off topic quickly.. my ray has a second stinger growing over his main one, about 30% of it's size. Can I assume his first one will be shedding soon? it will be the first time since birth.

Usually the new stinger will be almost as long as the old one before the old one is shed. If that wasn't the case, the ray would have less defense during the period when the new one was shorter.

That ray is nutso :D

Thanks!

He definitely likes playing... he does cruise around the bottom, and do all that, but for the most part he like to go up / down and all around on the glass. Also does backstroke across the top from time to time. When it's feeding time is when he will get a launch off from the display wood and swim around the tank in new ways. Along with backflipss of course.
