Rays eating from the top

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Old stinger will be shed. If it was an electrical current, his reaction would be different than swimming in circles.

Perhaps its just a playful pup that hasn't mastered the art of swimming yet? Kinda like when babies first learn how to walk....

Other fish behaving normally? Do you have any fish in their that are more sensitive than rays? I like always ultra sensitive fish as a precursor to symptoms to trouble that my other fish might get into....

i've seen rays swim upside down at the tops of tank for food before, especially when there has been a duckweed covering present. most times people just don't have a covering layer or other reason for a ray to swim like that.

Rays do not need salt by the way, why are you adding it?

As a preventative measure for the bass mostly, they had white spot a few months back. I heard adding it this way is a good idea? even with a stingray. I've only been adding 10 teaspoons every second WC on my 180g.

Thanks for all the compliments! I am positive it's just his personality... he truly is a very happy and fun stingray. I'll add more videos randomly, there also also a lot of videos of him from when I first grabbed him on my youtube page. You can find it from the video of the ray I posted to start this thread.

Cheers

I would check for ammonia. No way that is normal. Seems like his equilibrium is off. Hope all is well

All parameters are fine.

Seems this thread gets a string of people saying how happy the ray seems, then someone coming in saying the total opposite.. with all the things I have mentioned in this thread about the way I maintain the tank / his tank mates does it honestly seem like something would be wrong with him? I am just interested!

He eats amazingly well, he happily swims the tank and enjoys flying around mid / top of the tank, launching himself off the wood and flying around... and doing the odd backflip occasionally now. All parameters are fine, I maintain the WC schedule i listed on the other page, and his tank mates are also extremely happy.

edit: Also the link from Keepinfish was a useful read http://http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?241629-Is-this-normal. Feels like my ray has more space / is even better off than the ray in that thread.. just all little things which in my mind make me positive he is extremely happy and just playful. I do have the advantage of witnessing him for hours at a time though, and get the whole picture.

Lol bassrutten that made my day, I miss having rays :( he look real amazing you have yourself one of the most entertaining stingrays I've ever seen. Wish you all the luck on your ray, happy new year all
