you are the first ray keeper in the ehistory of ray keepers to keep stingrays with cichlids!

What about the chap who has the 600gallon, with the dorado, and cichla in with the Leo's?

That was my tank and didnt have any problems but the rays were all very large.

That is/was a fantastic set up, wanted one the same size but scaled down due to 'wife' restrictions.

Any pics??

I got the ray from somebody who kept him in with a pair off adult jags so i know i am not the first person to do this plus i knew somebody who kept rays with synspilum's without a problem.

I was and sill are nervous about the combinatoin i got. But as i said the have been together now for a month. There is a bit off trouble in there at the mo but nothing to do with the ray.

I have kept rays with cichlids so far without any problems. Most of the cichlids are not so aggressive but some have shown interest in the ray.
I have kept discus in the past with scobina and motoro and in my setup now I have motoro with sevs, geophagus, JD, and some africans. They live in a 220 gallon. No problems so far and its been almost 2 years. Also housed in the tank are an aro and some plecs (another fish people say to keep away from rays) So I really think its up to you watching the fish to make sure there are no problems, the personality of all the cichlids and of course some luck. Having a larger ray doesnt hurt either I bet.

why do you say rays are best kept on their own in a species tank

my rays p14s have bred with
5 x 12inch tigers/dats
1 x 12inch cambelli tiger/dat
1 x 20inch tigrinus cat
1 x 12inch flag tail
1 x 20inch asian aro

i wouldnt recomend some chiclids i have seen some peck at the rays disk or even eyes

I say that beause of what you just said above. There is a strong possibility that a fish will pick on a ray or the ray will eat the other fish if it can.

mmm i have kept rays with uaru fenadezyapezi and diffrent types of geos and discus last time i kept fish like that they were cichlids

as for keeping rays on their own in a species tank as far as i know rays are not the only thing that lives in the amazon

if you find the non agressive types of cichlids that others have kept with rays then it can work

the fish you see in the pic are uaru.f they are fine with rays but the other more coment type of uaru.a will peck at the disk and eyes
