Take scientific words pertaining to Potamotrygon and jumble them up on Google.. try these;

Elasmobranch
Potamotrygon
Osmoregulation
Habitat
Ecosystem
Parasites
etc
etc

from there, they will lead on to other subjects, and others, and others.. I read until I go cross eyed sometimes..

That is really good advice; thanks!

Forgive me if this seems out of line:

I want to compliment andersp90 on his attempt to debunk the opinions concerning ammonia and nitrates. Thank you.

I want to encourage others to attempt such experiments and show their work. I would like to learn more on this topic. Some day I would like to contribute steadfast data that could help us all.

However, I do find it troubling that when someone sticks their neck out and shares findings with the forum, they tend to get blindsided and ridiculed way to easily. Please, we are all in this together. Andersp90 is trying studying the enemy for the good of all of us. Help him, don't hinder him.

The Chemistry and Math involved in such an experiment is daring enough. How many of us here in the states have the gonads to risk a $3000+ Leo to prove or disprove these results?

Let's be a little more patient and helpful with each other. Give constructive advice. Don't try to prove one person is more correct then the other. We are all in this together.

Respectfully,
FireMedic.

Ha ha ha, and i found out that ammonia is an acid now, and that it will LOWER your pH.:screwy::grinno:

I would say that Firemedic's and Andersp90's experiments do take quite a bit of heat, but I think there is something very valuable there. I wouldn't want to risk it with my own rays, and I think that they were brave to do so. I can always admire when someone's love to learn and curiosity drive them to peer over the edge.

Some of the science involved seems primitive or questionable (and my learning about rays has not been much, if any, better) but overall I think it is fking great that someone is doing it.

:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

All I can say is that different types of rays handle these pollutants different.

Baby rays are also totally different.

A well conditioned and fat ray semi adult can take a lot of beating compared to a new small skinny ray which is stressed.

The suddeness of the change in water condition is also vital. A ray used to ozone, UV, 0 nitrates and 0 Nitrites all it's life won't take much pollutants to be shocked into a death curl.

It's the same reson why african kids can play in 40 deg heat while a european kid can die in a 30 deg 'heat wave'.

For the record, I am not part of anders experiment. I was just adding my opinion concerning the direction his post was possibly heading. I did not, do not, want to seem presumptuous. I was just making sure everyone here realized what he had risked so far in order to better our collective fish keeping cause.
