maybe wild piranha are but not if they were raised in a tank. People on here say they enjoy dim light but I think its how they were raised. Mine are actually afraid of the dark. I turn off the lights and they all go hide. Its only when I turn on the lights that they come out and swim around.

"a few years before they are 100% comfortable?" I really don't think so. I think its how much time you spend in front of the tank! my tank is in the living room with my kids running around in it all the time and my piranhas will swim right up to the glass and I can touch the glass with no fear coming from them. When I put my hands in the tank they barely swim away which sometimes scares me but as long as I know they are comfortable around me its fine just be careful. oh they are only about 5-6 inches. Beautiful fishes that will come out and show off if you take the time to know them.

Your paraphrasing is a lil off. He said "it CAN TAKE" years for them to be 100% comfortable. We all know they have different personalities

If having steady traffic around the tank lessens that, then that is def the problem. I am NEVER home. I am either at the university, at a match, or working... am i gona have to be like that scene from Home Alone where dude straight up puts cutouts of people on trains and stuff so it loks like people are home and moving around? hahaha!!!!

If i want to train my fish to be full of rage and attack anything in front of the tank then a twilight cutout would be just the thing

And thats funny, a Hollywood Vid just went under thats like 10 mins from my place! Do you live near me? lol!

6 different hollywood videos consolidated into 1 for a giant goin out of business sale here. Plus i noticed them dropping like flies when i visit my hometown also. I assume it was everywhere.

Since your tank is in a low traffic area and you're seldomly home then try this.
Set up a fan and tie a balloon to it then turn the fan on.
They may get used to that constant moving and make them a lil less skittish.
They usually are not that bad in larger groups of ten+, I guess you got lucky and scooped up all the skittish ones LOL

I'm sure youve been told this but a larger tank will hep also, have you considered getting a 126gal 6ft or larger?

That sounds like a pretty awsome idea actually, have you tried it/heard and success stories with that method? And yes it seems like i picked the sissy bunch at the store lol! They had tanks with adults that would swim up to your hand when you put it near the tank. I just wanted the joy of seeing them raised from lil guys to big guys.

As far as a bigger tank goes, if I were to hit the lottery, the first thing i would do would be to buy about a dozen gigantic tanks! Money is a little tight right now, and I fell into my 90 gallon from pure luck. A well known keeper in my area overheard me talking about starting the hobby at my bar and explained that he had an inactive 90 gal that was in the way essentially and I got the tank, a stand, al the gravel, plants, a big rock, an air pump, under gravel filter (which i dont use lol) all for $300! Another tank that size or bigger would run me well over a grand.... :cry:j
