RC clod buster project #2!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With my Sister in the hospital the past 6 weeks things kind'a got put on hold for awhile. Finally starting to get a tad more time to play around with things again though so just ordered the battery for this build last night. Ordered a SMC 3S 11.1v 5400mah 135amp 90c Lipo. With the dual brushless 5700k sensored Castle motors and dual Mamba-X ESC's plus as light as this truck is, this thing should most likely fly like the wind.

Gotta sort out the wiring next. Doing dual motors and dual ESC's with one lipo is a bit confusing to sort but I think I am on the right pasth for figuring all that out.

Hope your sister is okay and good to see you back to building this truck...

I must say though, with dual mamba X and those 3S / 90C lipo’s you should find this thing constantly wanting to take off lol...

I'd love to see some kind of a budget estimate on this project when it's done.

I was hoping not to add that up! LOL. Actually I was kind'a thinking that myself the other day. I'll give it a quick work up and see what it looks like :(

Carbon fiber plates to make chassis out of -$30
Aluminum rod stock-$15
Revo rod ends-$15
Shocks-$40
Servo-$40
King sling body-$55
Jconcept tires-$80
Jconcept wheels-$40
Two Mamba-x ESC's-$300
Two Castle brushless 5700k motors-$170
3s SMC lipo battery-$55
Transmitter (bought used)-$25
Thundertech hardened rear axles-$50
Thundertech hardened cvd front axle-$50
Fast Eddie bearing set-$20
Lipo charger-$100
All the parts to build both axles(housings/gears/etc etc)- $120
Then there's odds and ends like stainless screws and such so prob -$50

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things but that adds up to...... Oh dear Lord, $1255 so far. I REALLY should not have added it up lol. Ah well, at least now when I posted last week about being 8 yrs smoke free now you see where some of the savings from that goes :naughty:

I still have to do all the wiring on the truck but I'll have to tryin remember to snap some pics of it soon, it looks really awesome now. About two months ago I finished painting it a real nice corvette blue with airbrushed checkered flag and have all the flame decals and King Sling name on the side of it. Looks pretty badass now.

Holy cow Steve! That is high-end stuff.

I smoked from 1972 until 2008. 36 years.
I quit cold-turkey, but it was not my first attempt.
I had quit for about 6 mos in 2006.

Congrats on quitting.

Thanks, I had quit so many times before this I honestly thought I would never be able to do it. Then just out of the blue 8 yrs ago I got up one morning and just decided this time was for real and like you I quit cold turkey and haven't touched one since Good Friday of 2011. If I had not quit I doubt I would have all these cool hobbies today :)

Got side tracked with life for a bit but back to work on the custom carbon fiber chassis clod again now. 3S lipo came today so finished making the batt mount plate for it. Got it nice and low in the chassis and made it so the whole mount plate is easily removed as one unit by removing four cap head screws. Just waiting on some xt60 connector to get here this week and it should be up and running within the next week or so. Will be the first time running a truck since I got out of it over 15yrs ago so looking forward to enjoying the hobby again.

Come to think of it... was the cloud always intended to run on just 1x 3S battery? Coz it looks like it would use a lot of power running those two motors no???

Eitherway, please make sure to get video footage of its maiden run... would love to see how well and fast this thing can run...
