RD grow out update, 4 inches and head is starting to pop.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's a decent looking fish. As far as the "long looking body" and the comment about it not being a short body, that isn't the point. Flowerhorn with elongated looking bodies are considered a markdown on the quality of the fish. When I first saw the pic I noticed that, and one other thing right off the bat: From the looks of it now, he may grow up with a weak tail with little to no wrap on it. Some people are a bit anal when it comes to having a strong tail and tail wrap, others could care less.
Yep. It is an important trait for them to be stacked and bulky as opposed to longer bodied, not just with myself but its a fh thing. I think this rd is great though and Im sure it will bulk up and the longer appearance will change.

I am going to pick up some frozen krill later today, he seems ok with chunky stuff just not flakes. I am not sure on the tail yet, and he is a pita to get a good pic of because when he sees the camera he starts swimming really fast up and down in the corner where I'm standing. I have noticed the tail doesn't have a complete wrap, there are small gaps right now, but I don't know if it will change as he grows either. I really like his trailers he is growing now, his fins look nicer. Not sure of the body length either, the photo angles make him look a bit longer then he is but not much. I'll try again this weekend to get some photos of him, I know the new light bulb will make a difference on the color quality.

I was able to get a few pics last week of him that I forgot I had until I uploaded everything today. His flowerline is disappearing behind blue speckles now, I just wonder what it will do in the long term.

I also think he keeps growing into his head, it looked bigger last week and now he has grown a bit and his head doesn't look as big again..

Red Dragons dont usally have wrap tails...kamfas genrally have the wraped tail...with RD they usally have a lazy drooping dorsal fin when they get older...which makes it almost look like a wraped tail...idk mayb im wrong but i dont think so...

10 day update, he has been "fighting" with my daughter's dog that came back to live with us while she is at college. I may just be hopeful here, but I think his head has popped some more since the dog is around and his colors brightened up a bit too. My other flowerhorn plays with the dog a lot and teases it by swimming really fast up and down when it wants to play. I couldn't get any good pics of that one due to dog slobber on the tank...

Here's a quick pic of the dog playing with the other flowerhorn. The fish really digs this more than the mirror I've put in the tank. If he sees the dog he starts charging up and down int he corner of the tank and the dog runs over and they chase back and forth across the front of the tank. I need to get a youtube of them, maybe a can do that this weekend.
