RD grow out update, 4 inches and head is starting to pop.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ Thank you. I thought it was also time for another update. His head started to get nice, and then something happened and I still don't know exactly what. He got kind of moody and his head went away a bit. He seems to be over it now, but his head hasn't come back a lot, it's maybe about what it was in a couple of these pics. I want to be clear though, it never was big, just a little bigger though. I'm trying to give him some more time with a mirror and that seems to be helping. It's also possible he may have grown a bit and his head needs to catch up now. He's close to 6 inches nose to end of tail as of today.

Wow, hes looking great! Love the first pic w/ his flared gills at his reflection, shows his colors alot and I love the blue on his top trailing fin!!
Even though Im a firm believer on genetics, maybe some higher protein pellets can help his head pop back out again? I feed mine NLS as a staple but also feed him humpy head sometimes since it has a high amount of protein (58%). Or live shrimp is great too for protein and head growth. Looking forward to more updates! :)

Thanks, I think he looks pretty good in photos, he's a pain to get to hold still to get them though. I can only hope the yellow keeping popping now.

So I got out of the hobby to a degree this summer, I'm down to one large tank (although we are considering upgrading it to something bigger again). I'm keeping goldfish and a few baby koi right now. My red dragon went to live with another MFKer, and is doing good. I went through my cell phone pics tonight and found one that was taken July 7th, so I thought I would update this thread again even though he no longer lives with me. I'm sure he looks even better now, and this wasn't the best pic either.

I also truly believe the crap city water I have was keeping him back, he's now on well water in the country.

love him, where did you purchase him? ( shoot me a pm, i'll loose this thread )
