I have a mixed Malawi tank. My convict layed eggs and about 72 hours later they hatched... About 40 Babies are 10 days old and swimming around tank with parents protecting them from the other 20 mix malawi... How long will parents protect them and do you think it's a matter of time before they all get eaten up?

Convicts are not African fish. What size tank are they in? Convicts are know for being ultra aggressive especially while breeding. I think there is a good chance that the tank will be overrun with convicts before long.
What other fish are in the tank?

They I. A 1.2m Buyo tank. About 250 litre tank.. I want to know if babies might survive or will the be eaten up if I don't remove them.. There are lots of rocks. Will that help the babies15644136147271634569641292851222.jpg

Looks like you have quite the mix of fish in there. Picture is not 100% clear but looks like some Victorians, Mbuna and are those Cyprichromis in the top middle? And is that a Jewel on the far left side? If yes that is three different lakes and African river cichlids represented along with the Central American convicts.

I think that enough will survive with all of your rock work that you will soon be overrun with convict fry.

Do you think the babyConvicts would get eaten up
More than likely they will. I had a pair of HRPs in a 55gal that breed ten plus times. I ended up with only three fry. I had a mess of peaceful fish like Platys, Roseline sharks, busynose plecos that ate fry like Sunday morning hotcakes. I am sure all them other cichlids will gobble them up.

Sequester Convict fry with a divider.
When they get big enough, pull the divider and let 'em rip.

Curious to see what the tank looks like in 6 months. You very well may have a constant supply of live food.
