It took me a while to learn my lesson with cichlids. I don't keep them any more. I only have a jag who lives with a group of pacus, and a JD who is so calm I trust him to live with my motoro. Thats all that is left out of keeping almost exclusively cichlids. They are too much of a hassle. Their attitudes will make you pull your hair out.

I love the thread title, BTW. I laughed as soon as I saw it.

I think that's the point of keeping Cichlids. You never know what you're gonna get - It's a challenge. You might read a hundred books about i.e. a Firemouth being peaceful and end up with a really bad tempered one. It's fun to watch them interact, grow, etc. And if you do everything right, you get rewarded with stunning adult fish.

I'm personally not a fan of a bunch of pretty fish with absolutely no personality swimming in circles and eating flakes all day. For that I'll buy a fake aquarium with plastic battery-operated fish.

Place him in the Dixie cup for an hour and see if that changes his personallity. These things happen all the time. Serisouly I would put him into the 3 gallon tank for a while and reintroduce him later.

Must I even put water in the cup, or can I just wing it? :irked:

I remember that feeling... lol. Why don't you go buy him a temporary friend... i.e. a 12 inch red devil? >_>

Btw, I LOVE your aqua-scaping job. It is full of awesome.

LOL! Because I love my other fish.

...maybe a betta bowl on the kitchen table, and he can keep the cat company...or vice-versa.

You're looking at it all wrong. It's not mean, it's assertive and full of personality. :D

are you attached to this particular firemouth already? you could exchange him/her for another that is a tad smaller and maybe more mellow.

Im attached to them before I leave the fish store with them. I picked that one.. kid brought him to the counter, I looked at the bag and said 'nope..wrong one.' :)
