Two more stuff you need to know. First, please if you want your beard dragon to live a long healty life dont use a particulate substrate: sand, dirt, wood chips, etc Use paper towels insted. I know a lot of peple use them and the animals do great, but in the last 2 years ,2 of my friends lost 3 animals: 2 beard dragons and a leopard gecko for sand and wallnut shells.Really sad:(. Please guys dont be mad at me I´m just telling my experiences. Also dont forget to feed your new pet a varied diet. For a baby ,pinhead crickets, fruit flies and other soft body small prey items are the choice. Also dark leaf vegetebles like turnip greens, mustard greens and water cress. For a small animal the ideal proporcion is 70% insects and 30% greens. A cricket must not be larger than half the space between the animals eyes. Have you check the anapsid.org site ? Its a really good one:D

I have 2 had one before. i know what im talkin about ill tell to my setup. 40gal breeder, repticarpet, hollow basking log for shade/sleeping/hiding,150watt heat lamp. 10.0uvb 18"strip light(no less than 5.0 uvb 10.0 is ideal), medium heat pad, water bowl, screen top. that is it. i feed letuce, and greens w/ pellets everyday. Now that mine are full grown i feed live food only like once or twice a week. The pellets make up for protein. any more questions PM me. i would like to help...... drew

I never kept the hatchlings or young ones on sand but the adults were. They like to dig around a bit and I think the females can become eggbound if not provided a spot to dig for the eggs.Once it is bigger then you can research more on substrates but if your worried right now and its just a baby then just keep it on paper towel or something first. You just dont want it eating crix off the ground while at the same time taking in sand that can build up in their gut.Ive called sandfire dragon ranch back in the day and they were very helpfull.May want to look them up .I myself used sand for my adults but I had a ton of bricks and large rocks for them and they spent more time on those really.Idk,touchy subject.
