Really Need Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just did an 80% water change and my parameters are ammonia is 0.50ppm, nitrite is still the same and nitrate is 80ppm. There was improvement but my problem now is the nitrite. It didn't decrease. Please help!

My old filter also hasn't establish any bacteria yet too but I did rewash the filter wools, media and sponges with my recent tank water before using them.

I have a bare bottom tank and it isn't new. I have 2 giant gouramis @ 12", 1 endli @ 12", 1 senegal bichir @ 8" and an ornate bichir @ 12". The tank has already been running for years with once a week water changes. I feed my fishes tilapia fillet and OSI sinking shrimp pellets.

110 gallons with those fish? How regular are you feeding? Also, since you washed everything and you have no substrate, your tank will have no established BB at all. Are you using a canister filter or a trickle filter?

I feed osi sinking pellets usually 4x a week, once a day. I feed tilapia 2x a week same time with osi sinking pellets. The filter I am using is an overhead filter that looks something like this. Please help! Thanks in advance.

I just checked my parameters and nitrites are still 5.0ppm and my ammonia is still .50ppm. There was a decrease in my nitrates after I added an aquatic plant in my filter box and the colors became a lighter shade. My nitrate is now ranging from 40-80ppm. Please help. Thanks!

It sounds like your filter is re-cycling. Only thing you can do is keep doing 25% water changes every day/other day and just keep detoxifying the water with prime or equivalent to prevent fish from dying

I see. Thanks mate! My fishes are still active even though the parameters are this way.

If you are still feeding your fish like that, stop. Your fish are large and can survive drastic food reductions. Cut feeding way down until the readings look good, then gradually increase feeding while re-testing. It sounds like you lost a lot of BB in this process, so that is the main issue, not food.
