Really not happy....disaster struck

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you did a 90% water change the stuff might have been somethin solid at the bottom of the tank instead of beer in the water but idk

Highly doubt it was alcohol. I once stupidly set a glass of scotch on a shelf above the rim of my tank. Yeah well the entire glass was knocked into the water. I immediately did a 75% water change and never saw any problems although the fish were very unpredictable(long periods of being lethargic with sudden birsts of uncoordinated activity) for the next day or so.

I had a "friend" dump a shot of everclear into a 60 gallon with a large oscar years ago. Killed off all my beneficial bacteria and the tank was very smelly and white the next day. Didn't lose the fish though, lots of water changes.

So it doesn't sound like alcohol to me.

the only problem is that in those situations you did water changes immediately, whereas whatever alcohol or whatever it was stayed in the tank for days before the water change. not saying it was alcohol just saying dont rule it out because of others experience.

<------my avatar is an amarillo. sorry to hear about your plight, they are great fish.

they might have dropped drugs of some sort in there. my friend who lives with me brought some chicks over and they were messing with my tank and i got pissed. they were going to put some of there "drugs" on the tank to see if the fish tripped with them. i told my freind i disapproved.

it seems as if its always the girl roommates who manage to really F things up! Sorry for your loss bro.

The "burning" effect or loss of scales could be do to alcohol but usually is a symptom of chlorine poisoning. Did you forget to treat the water during your major water changes?.................... I grabbed the wrong bottle of api one time and burnt out 5 carribe pirahna, the API bottles of tap water conditioner and water clear look exactly alike- another long shot is mercury poisoning thermostates use mecrury as the medium to gage temperature.

I fret about this all the time.

With over $400 worth of fish in my living room display, it's been made clear that if anyone is seen doing anything stupid, that's it. If deaths result from this stupidity, they will be paying for replacements.

Thankfully, everyone that regularly stays, drinks and resides in my home is very respectful of my concerns and my passion for my tanks, and all love watching the fish. I'm always worried that some reckless twit who's just here for the night will try and get some attention by dicking around.

Don't rule out some people with no respect for other peoples things, thinking its funny. A friend of mine growing up had a tank and some kids thought it would be hilarious to dump beer into his tank. eveything died. some people are just a-holes.

i had a roomate that decided it would be fun to feed my 3' iguana fruity pebbles and get it drunk one night when he was hammered. it died the next day. son of a ***** id still like to beat him for that one.
