pics of my paroons....
I've not heard much about ID sharks getting to be as big as some of those pics I know you are talking about while in a home aquarium, I have seen on at 18" but thats just not the monster a lot of people make them out to be, however they are very easily stunted just like paroons, so you really have to keep an eye on the water parameters and make sure you don't leave them in your "grow out" tank for a day too long.....but I would think you have awhile before needing the monster tank they'll eventually need. Just keep in mind it's not just the tank that you have to purchase, it's filtration, lighting, ect, that all far exceeds your cost for the tank. I have been buying mine a little at a time, and all I need now for my 200 is the glass and some plumbing for the sump, you take much less of a hit if you just buy a little here and there, especially if you're grabbing sale items ;)

A quiznos down the street from me has a pair of ID sharks in a 90 gal tank with some kind of barb, all three fish are over 2'. I keep telling the owner it's time for a larger tank or to donate them to me, but he won't listen. I'd say his biggest shark is probably 26" easily. I'll see if he'll let me snap some pics next time I am in there. They are really cramp. Their noses are always raw, and their fins are bent weird. Wish he'd give them to me so that I can house them proper. He says they are just fish and they're fine. He's had them about 5 years he says. He got them at 4".

very sad, especially that you could house them properly before they are much worse.
