In the end, I plan on doing doing just that and stock the tank with what I want. I may get an Oscar or I may not. I'm not set on anything at this time. I may disappoint a bunch of the hard core fish keepers on here with what I stock the tank with but that's ok becasue I'm going to get stock that I know I will be able to take care of. I like hardy fish that don't die on me and are reasonably priced. I plan to have this tank for a long time. I probably will stock it with "common" fish for now but who know what the future holds, I may try to work up to the "exotics" in the years to come.

Tetras a guppies would fill it out just nicely!

I'll fill the tank with some of these.

Vampire Tetra

Scientific Name: Hydrolycus scomberoides
Recommended Aquarium: 100+ Gallons
Approx. Adult Size: 18 to 24 inches
Temperament: Aggressive
Ease of Care: Moderate
Diet: Carnivore
Native Waters: South America

An aggressive and carnivorous fish that requires heavy filtration and regular water changes to maintain. This fish is also known as the Saber Tooth tetra, and can get very large in captivity with the possibility of reaching several feet in length and a weight of 30 or more pounds. The Vampire Tetra requires a temperature in the range of 75 to 80 degrees. It is a live fish eater, so a constant supply of guppies or rosy reds will be needed as a food supply. Some of these fish can be converted to eat meatier frozen foods, but should still be offered live food as a supplemental source of nutrition.

Approximate arrival size for Vampire Tetra: 4 to 6 inches

If you don't mind...where did you purchase the tank, how much was shipping, and also tank cost...you can pm me if you don't wish to share openly..or not at all..thanks...

The tank is from Tenecor. I posted this in the Tenecor Forum with the intent to give some positive feedback to the company. The thread has since then taken on a life of its own. There are stickies with information about the company and how to contact them in this section. As for price...it wasn't cheap. Shipping was about $700 from AZ to PA. Your shipping charge will depend on the size of the tank and distance from AZ to your hometown.

hehehe... i doubt u would want that but if your serious, research that fish first... because that species have a reputation of having short life-span in home aquaria... but since your bless with such a pretty good size home aquarium... do some research on fish that you may be interested in and can stay with you for long long while... the max size of some fish at 2.5'-3'.. they don't grow that big in a home aquarium... don't base your decision on max sizes but the average adult size... i didn't mean to bash on oscars on my previous post, its just that there's so many selections out there so you can keep an open mind.. why pick the most common one... IT IS YOUR AQUARIUM THOUGH, if your really like the oscar, then its your choice.. nothing wrong with that choice..
I will be getting a similar size set up in 6 months.. but i am growing out Pbass, arowana, and bichirs... i have them right now and but will need to upgrade when they're bigger...
fyi: i also did start out with oscars and pacu... enjoyed them then too... but sharing with friends.. the nice bigger ones i thought would be better to show-off...heheheh

good luck man!!! as long as your happy with your work...

I'm not serious about that fish. I just posted that in response to Pharoh's joke about stocking the tank with Tetra's since the Vampire Tetra is not your average Tetra.

huge tank try some arowanas tooo ..:)

I love Arowanas but I believe they are more suited for a 10' X 6' tank. Just my opinion.

Just wanted to give an update on my lids...They were damaged during shipment and I have been told today that new ones were shipped out yesterday. I should have them in a few days.

Also wanted to correct my original posting that stated I spoke to Brian about them. It was Dennis that I was dealing, so I want to give a big Thanks to Dennis for shipping out new ones, no questions asked.

I have seen multiple postings here that question Tenecor's committment to customer service. I have to say that my experience to date has been nothing but positive. If your in the market for a new tank, I would definately recommend Tenecor.

I have been very interested in any thread dealing with tenecor simply for one reason. It is impossible to do some of the things I have in the planning stage with glass. So it would either be the company from las vegas or tenecor.

The one thread which really had bad things to say about tenecor had the op suddenly drop when called to task on his thread, he just stopped posting. For me that thread lost all credibility when the person who is basing tenecor does not deliver his coup de grace when he should.

Very interested to see the end of how things turn out for you.
