Recently found out I did 2 illegal things

A while back I netted through the river and found out that was illegal, I caught 2 endangered Rio Grande silvery minnows and kept them, and they have acclimated to my tank and I found out you cant take them out of the river.
What should I do? Should I release the Silvery minnow back, or would that release aquarium diseases to the river? I caught them where it was thought they dont exist anymore. They seemed to be paired up.

You could keep them but if you are uncomfortable try getting in touch with the rescue project. E-mail the Silvery minnow refugium in Albuquerque, but there is some risk involved as the local fish and wildlife officer may be an idiot. Just don't take any more out of the wild.

nothing will happen, get them to spawn and start your own rescue project.

OMG what a situation ... need to contact get in contact with the DFG and say what ya did and let them know that you did not know it was illegal at the time and wasn't sure of what species it was and didn't know it was endangered species ... and ask them what you should do

I wouldn't sweat it. You did something and it turns out it was a mistake. I think we have all been there. I think the best way you can make amends is to take care of the fish like your life depended on it.
