Recently found out I did 2 illegal things

3. keeping wild caught fish is just natural in the hobby
4. all you other haters step off it was an accident let it go that other guy already contacted the authorities and it all good

Why should I go away,sicko or whatever.

Do you not have any fish in your tanks that were wild-caught? I know I do. My RTC, Pacus, all of my tetras, my clown loaches, probably my silver dollars, maybe some of my corydoras, my florida gars, and all of my saltwater fish were wild caught. I don't know what you keep, but it's very difficult to only keep aquacultered specimens, unless you only keep guppies and oscars.

Did you catch all of these your self? Or did the person you bought them from tell you that?

I have a wild caught Black Arowana.

A.) get a positive ID on the fish. You might be wrong..
B.) all pets can trace their blood-lines to some wild animal.. the debate is pointless at best.
C.) Do Not and Never re-release any fish/reptile/ect. You take out of the wild, Disease alone is reason enough. So before removing it think twice. And check your local laws surrounding it.

And everyone makes mistakes, trying to correct it, and asking for help is never wrong.

It is pointless to nit pick this.It seems like most people who have commented,myself included,have opinions on wild caught animals.And although people may have good intentions in keeping wild caught,it may not be in the best interest of the species in the long run.In fact,it usually never is.We can debate this all we want,but in the end,it is the animals that lose.It is probably inevitable that we will all become extinct some day,but it seems like some of the animals have meet their doom much sooner than needed.

Are any of the wild caught fish people are keeping here on the endangered species list?
None of the ones,except the ones the OP mentioned are.

Haha you're right, I did not catch my RTC myself. Nor did I catch any of my other fish myself. However, it is ridiculous to think that just because I did not catch them myself, with my own net, they were bred in captivity. I know they weren't. Clown loaches are wild caught. They just are. RTCs are the same way. Many corydoras are. They just are. There's no one breeding RTCs for the pet fish industry that I know of. Perhaps there is someone, but I'm guessing not. In addition, I do not know of anyone breeding Florida Gars so that I can have them in a fish tank. So, yes, that's what I was told, but it's also what makes sense. Besides, I'm not the one that has a problem with wild caught and only keeps animals who were bred for the specific purpose of being pets, that's you. So I'm not sure why you're asking me, because I'm not the one who said I don't keep animals that weren't bred to be pets. That's you. I specifically said that I don't know what you keep, but I know many of the fish I have were wild caught.

What are you talking about?
Removing ANY wild species from the wild to keep as a pet,is not a good idea.If you want to go catch some game fish and take them home and eat them,fine.But that is not what we are talking about here is it

So it's OK in your mind to catch a fish and kill it...but not keep it alive in a tank

Either way the impact on the species/environment will be the same.


I supose you've never owned a wild caught, how do you know this? You can't tell us you've never inquired about buying a WC fish, can you?

You asked me how I knew my fish were wild caught, and suggested that possibly I believed that because the individual who sold me the fish said that they were. I answered your question. You did not ask me if the fish I keep are endangered species. So, I'm glad you got a good laugh out of it, but I'm not sure why it's funny. I just answered your question.

Besides, your statement that you do not keep animals which were not bred to be kept as pets had nothing to do with endangered animals. It was a blanket statement, which surprised me, because, as I said, proportionally very few of the fish available in the hobby are aquacultured.

What you're doing is continually changing the subject, so that it goes from you don't keep wild-caught fish, to how I know my fish are wild-caught, to the fact that the fish I keep are not endangered. This could go on forever, with nothing useful being added. Therefore, I'm done.
