Recommend filter setup for my 36x18x13 tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a pengiun 330 will do really well. i use it in my 55gal and it rocks. very good flow. but it is important to clean the filters once a week. just spray them clean try not to rub too much or you will break down the floss material. replace filters at least once a month to change the carbon and that should work for you. the bio wheels will definitely help with your bio filtration but can be kind of noisy.

yes it's noisy that's why I returned the marineland bio-wheel because my tank is right beside my tank. That's how much I love my fish..... :grinyes:

I haven't use the aquaclear 200 yet but will this weekend, hope it's quite.

Ok now I've seen how the Marineland is compared to the Aqua clear and the Marineland is better IMO. Somehow the aquaclear can't get the water clean like the marineland, I hope there's no other factors involve though.

I must say the aquaclear is only a tad quieter and the install of the 3 layers are.......well let's just say they could have thought of a better way to pack it in the filter. I'll keep my hopes up on this one but right now it seems like I wish I would have kept the Marineland.

 Hey again! Two things before you totally dismiss the A/C 70 (200):
1} It's quietest when your water level is high, the lid is on tight & the unit itself is level.
2} The supplied media (starter kit if you will), is just the tip of the 'iceberg'. You can make different combo's 2 suit your needs!! The foam & xtra biomax works best for me. You can use the zeolite, carbon or amrid if you want or you can make up your own media bags of peat (for softening), ammo-chips (for temporary ammonia spike), super carb (for medication removal) ect. , ect. I'm not saying the others don't do a good job but 4 the money & flexibility you can't go wrong. Oh! & water clarity --------- PRICELESS!!! :) :)

Just for future reference, 36"x18"x13"=8424, divide by 231 for gallons. 36.46 approx, then subtract a bit for the glass, your tank holds somewhere between 32-35 gallons, I would call it a 35 wide, it is a nice sized tank, much more useful than most 35g tanks and harder to find.

Well the LFS said it was a 30 gallon breeder so I'll take their words for it. They are hard to come by, especially a nice hood/top which I still can't find at the moment... :swear:

I think I've caught the fish virus like everyone else and I got my eyes on that 125 gallon tank with stand for around $700 bucks, hopefully by summer.

HEY WHILE WERE ON THE TOPIC OF FILTERS I HAVE SOME OTHER QUESTIONS STARTING WITH OVER THE TANK VS UNDERGRAVEL .I BEEN OUT OF THE HOBBY FOR AWHILE WHEN I BOUGHT MY TANKS THIS TIME THEY CAME WITH OVER THE TANK FILTERS AS TO ABOUT 10 YRS AGO EVERY THING HAD UNDERGRAVEL WHY THE CHANGE AND WHICH IS BETTER . I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE FILTER ON MY 29 GAL SO I ADDED A ASUBMERSSIBLE ONE TOGETHER THAY SEEM TO WORK FINE ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT THANKS

Dam I could have gotten a 55 gallon with stand for the price I paid for my 30 gallon breeder. Oh well I do like the wide effect though because it give my fish room to rome. They don't swim much up and down anyways.

That sucks, I couldn't find a 125 in my area. I hope I'll be able to find it by summer.
