recommendations for 10 gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it will work just fine for a small tank like that...try to get a 6700k bulb...most lfs will have them...since its just one bulb i would stick to that...if it was 2 i would say get one 10k and one 6700 so u get that nice blue with the 10k...but one 6700 should work good for that tank and still has a nice white/purple color to it

Will do. I just finished making my co2 system. I just have to wait for the water to cool down a little before I add the yeast. I decided to do a 1 gallon because it was cheaper to buy instead of a soda bottle its a little bigger so I guess that will help out too.
I'll post pics once I get it going. I added some egeria densa just to use some of the co2 until I my plants come in.

Here are some pics of my new diy co2 :grinno: it cost me less than 3 dollars since I had all of the stuff lying around. The only thing I needed to buy was the bottle and the yeast:D.
What I did
I took the cap off the empty water bottle. I then took a 1 inch section of the airline tubing to figure out the diam. It was 1/4 inch tubing. I took the cap over to my drill press and put in a 1/4in drill bit. If you have a drill press it is much safer to put the hole in plastic using it as opposed to a hand held drill. I put a the hole right in the center using the manufactures mark as my reference. I took some aquarium silicone and stuck the airline tubing in about 1/2 an inch. I siliconed the inside of the cap as well as the outside. I let it sit for a few hours which was enough time for it to cure. Then I filled my bottle about 3/4s of the way with warm water then added 2 cups sugar. I let it sit for a while because I found out yeast died in too warm of water. Then I added a teaspoon of yeast to the mixture. I put the cap on and added a wood air block to the end of the tubing. I then put the block under the filter to catch the bubbles and have them further dissolve in the water. I didn't start getting bubbles until about half an hour after I added the yeast.

id be careful with the cap on that bottle...usually 1 gallon bottles like water and what not dont have the same seal and strenth as a soda bottle thats made to hold up to the gas of soda...i guess just keep a eye on it...is the lil wood diffuser working for u??...bubbles small enough??

I took the diffuser off just a minute ago I'm going to see if its any better because my bubbles stopped :(. I'm hoping it will start working again. I'll have to keep an eye on this for a day. Ya I have a soda bottle I just need to finish the soda in it before I use it lol. I'll try making another as well to see if it works any better.

u were probably leaking trough ur cap...use the 2 liter...u should get better results...i researched this alot and have one in a 29 gallon...its a lil more complicated setup since its a bigger tank...but i have it plumbed with a diy reactor on my fluval...and i can get to about 3-4 bubbles per second if i want...maybe more...i have 2 soda bottles...then i have a 3rd smaller soda bottle which acts as my separator...then i have a needle valve followed by a bubble counter and into my reactor from there...very simple but works great...i cant even see my co2 it gets diffused so well...amount of bubbles vary's with ur mixture also...i make a more aggresive mixture which only last about 2 weeks but goes strong...ive made mixtures that have lasted almost dubble that but dont get me the bubble per seconds i wanted...hope that helps..

ohh and another thing...i use fittings on my cap's...i tried doing the whole silicone and line thing...but the thing is that silicone doesnt bond well to the plastic the caps are made from
