The silicone has been working very well so far. Well so far isn't that much lol. I think it will do ok though because the surface of the cap is textured. I'm not sure though I may end up getting a rubber stopper as you mentioned. I'll see how it goes.

HA! success got it working. I added back the wood block and raised it up a little higher in the tank so that there was less pressure. Sure enough I start seeing really really tiny bubbles. Small enough where they aren't popping at the surface but being carried by the current and dissolving in the water yay! It works :)

Keep an eye on your wood block. They tend to get clogged easily with algae and debris. With the filter you have, it would work perfectly to stick the end of the airline into the intake of the filter. It would also mean less equipment in the tank.

On another note, I'd like to share my method of connecting the tubing to my reactor bottle. I just used an awl to make a hole in the cap. I stopped enlarging the hole before it got big enough to slide the tube through it, and used some needlenose pliers to work the tube through the hole. No sealant, no chemicals, and only about 5 minutes work pulling the tube through. The pressure of the tube against the small hole keeps it perfectly airtight. I've never had a seal leak either. Just an idea in case your current method isn't quite what you need.

I forgot to add that sticking the tube in the filter intake will result in better CO2 diffusion as well, since none of the CO2 bubbles escape the intake.
