Record breaking heat is causing high temps in my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you put a egg crate top on it? My method that works here as its been 110 degrees is as follows

25 feet of airline coiled in a disposable cooler full of ice packs next to the tank. A luft air pump powering a stone in the tank and having had 99% of the airline coiled in the little cooler next to the ice packs it lowers my temps considerably.

How hot do you think the water can get on the equator?

it would depend on location and climate/season but, from the little research Ive done. it rarely goes past the mid 90's on average. sometimes volcanic activity can cause water temperature to soar!

also, keep in mind that the deeper u go the colder the water gets. i.e. the water at a depth of 2 ft is a lot warmer then water at the depth of 200 ft

i too would like to know more about this topic.

Before we got AC I used to keep 12 bottles of water in our spare deep freezer. When any of the tanks would go past 85 I would drop a few bottles in there for a little bit, when they melted, take them out, and replace them with ones in the freezer. It worked quite well honestly. Its just takes a few minutes of your time and a little watching.

like the frozen water bottle idea, especially for emergencies . . . my own long-term solution was using egg-crate light diffusers to top the tanks, and adding clip-on fans . . .

lol you guys think 90 degrees is record breaking heat come out here and see how you like 118

i know i use to live in avondale arizona like 10 years ago but never had any problems with my tank cause we had ac but up here in the great northwest we rarely get into the 90's so no ac.........and on a side note i dont miss the arizona summers
