I have a seventeen inches red arowana. Two months ago, I moved him to a larger community tank. Lately I have been noticing that my arowana losing its orange color.
Its orange scales are fading more and more everyday.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? and what's to do to protect or gain back its color?

Thanks!

i duno that looks pretty cool right there. but it is prolly sick, what are the water parameters?

Try giving it cover and leaving the lights off when possible. If the tank is more open and exposing it could be stressful to it.
The tank looks like a room divider. Remember, most fish have binocular vision and therefor have a very wide field of view. If the surroundings of the tank, especially if its in a busy area, have a lot of movement, then this will stress a fish out. If you put the tank out in the open, now the movement doubles for the fish because there is movement both in front and back of the tank. In a word, exposed. Try giving the fish some cover.

Nice! Change in enviroment like bigger tank, tank with clear view on all side are some of the reason that its color is fading. Actually, lighting will bring out the color. BTW, don't be surprise if you catch the wrath from haters :grinno:

I'm not a hater but Asian aros are illegal in the US and it is not always looked well upon here. Plus it is not smart to post an illegal fish online. Just trying to help out...

looks awesome!! do you have any pics from when it looked like it did before?

dont know much about arowanas, but most fish loose colour etc if there stressed out so maby he doesnt like the tank mates you have placed him with or is being picked on??

what other fish are in the tank??

Who said hes from the United States?

A stupid ban but a ban non the less..

This looks like a restaurant that could be why he's stressed too much movement, but ya if you do live in the states good luck I bet there's already a fish and game agent at your door because of this posting, people have been caught on MFK before by stings.
