If it is hemorrhagic septicemia virus , antibiotics will only treat the bacteria based secondary infections, not the virus itself.

Not sure about mycobacteriosis aka fish TB, you would need to confirm this via smear sample. A vet that specializes in fish would be your best bet.

Fish Aid Antibiotics Doxycycline Capsules Fish Medication, 100-mg
I purchased a large bottle of this, enough to treat my entire tank. I think it was 100 capsules. But it looks like it may have been discontinued.
Thanks, I borrowed a bunch of meds from a fellow fish keeper. I'm going to try tetracycline

My bad for guessing, do you think looking at poop through a microscope would show anything?

One of my fish had very similar syptoms Rd would you be able to have a look at my post I made sick fish internal parasites?

A microscope can always help, if you know what to look for. But I'm no vet ......

I think my african cichlids may have hemorrhagic septicemia. What medication would you use to treat the fish?

Do you think Is hemorrhagic septicemia virus is always in the water column of all tanks and just shows up when fish are stressed? Kind of like some people say about ick? Or do you think something was introduced?

I have been keeping african cichlids for 25 years or so. First time I have had to deal with it. I do not think there is a viable treatment.
I wonder if the proliferation on online fish sales has not spread diseases that were not prevalent in the hobby 20 years ago.

yea this make me nervous because I have other non African cichlid tanks that are much more important to me. I do not want to chance something making it over to those tanks. Since it sounds like if it is some type of virus that there is no cure. I also worry that if I ever want to add new Africans to those tanks then the cycle will continue forever.

because i have the same problem i used kanaplex and focus and metroplex and they did nothing for my fish
