Red belly Pacu breeding questions...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Breeding pacus is not possible in a tank... and if your buddy wants a shool of pacu thats great.. because there are so many that need adoption.. he can get them for free.. read up on pacus... and realize that in no time flat the cute little baby is huge like mine were..bigger then a turkey platter... thats why they need an enormous amount of room to breed...:D

By saying it is not possible... are you speaking from experience?

BTW, I am attempting my own large fish rescue, If I get much response in the next few weeks I will build a 800 gallon or so tank. Large fish community tanks are pretty cool.

Personal or collective? If personal, then yes, my pacus have not bred in my tank. If collective, then yes, neither have anyone elses.

I assume that they are farmed like Pangasius hypophthalmus, then? Large ponds that babies are often netted out of?

yes ... i had male and female for 8 years, untill my tank exploded and i lost my beloved pacus... the wire under the tank shorted out and the fire heated up the bottom of tank until it blew.. do not get into something that will break your heart.. they grow too big for the average tank.. they need at least 300gal min... when fully grown.. and that is not enough really... pacus are my favorite fish... no doubt about it.. but i cannot replace them unless i have a huge tank... they make waves and splash.. you get the picture... :(

TRS, do you currently keep pacu? Or any other piaractus?
