red belly piranha eggs???

ahhhh ha i got a pick of the little guy he hides in that big ball of plants. so whats the easiest way to have plants and a clean tank i do water changes every two weeks 50% i know its the dead plants. they have black algae and other stuff.

is bare bottom on half a good idea or will they not spawn? should i leave a little substrate?

I think i failed at hatching BBS. i had them in a liter air stone. no heater. so i used a room heater and placed it by the hatchery. its been 24 hrs. i siphoned some out and they are a pink/red color but there not moving. when i turned the air off and let the bbs settle the top of the liter looked like the eggs are at the top along with the shells. i can see a few swimming . but its been 10 min and its still not divided the living bbs /eggs/shells ... what did i do wrong .? is it the temp wasn't at 80 and slowed the hatching progress?


you can see the pinkish/orange bbs stuff by the fry . some move some just look like unhatched any pro's help me out

Surprising this hasn't received any attention.
Vacuuming out eggs and larvae may have damaged them. Red bellies also guard their eggs and fry.
I don't know how well a mass of eggs would fair with that many piranha around, you could always separate your female, condition her as well as a male, then introduce them into an aquarium with a mass of plants; assuming you have another aquarium. Piranha behave like cichlids when breeding.
Your gravel isn't really needed.
It will take a week for them to be free swimming, but you'd need a ton of food for them. They'll cannibalize each other if hungry, down to a few hundred fish if your lucky. After that you'd still need a lot of food, and space.

Thanks for your information. i will start focusing on my parents tank more. maybe sell a few adult piranha to give them more from. so it would be OK for me to do half bare bottom half heavily planted.

like i said I'm going to get back to working on these fry and parent tank will update soon also i will keep the big air stone off. i will only turn it on to make more current to clean up any eatin food thanks again richie elp

its just something that i put over a reg filter to block/ slow down the flow rate ..
 
so now that they have eyes and are starting to wiggle and even swim abit is it time to feed or do i wait for the little belly or sack to disolve?

i know im a newb at this and thanks to all of you who have been following this. more comments and advice would pwn. gonna play some warcraft be back soon
 
If they are breeding in there, you really don't need to sell any adults for room. I didn't actually count your stock or notice your tank size.
Check to see if you are over stocked. You can help the water quality issues by adding additional filtration, carrying out water changes, and if needed reducing stock.

You can try offering one of those clay flowerpot bases, if you're lucky they will spawn there. If they use it, remove it CAREFULLY. Net your fish out or use a divider.
Set up a sponge filter from in parent tank, when there are eggs, you'll have a filter to use that is seeded with the bacteria you need. Remember to use water from the parent tank.
And when I say you'll need a ton of food, I am talking gallons of brine shrimp. It's easier if you cull.

awesome info again!

so i guess since there all ready in the little fry tank i will leave them in there for now just to see if i can pull it off.

my 250g tank has 3 fx5 filters co2 and plants. i can divide the tank. that's a good idea.

one last question. once the fry have eyes and there little bubble on them is getting smaller should i feed? i want to time it just right. its so hard it seems to control what happens in nature naturally.
