Red Ceibals or Gymnogeophagus

Sorry about the quality of the pics. I just had these on my iphone. The full tank shot is when all 11 were in the main tank, I've since taken 4 of them to an outdoor holding ''pond''. The last shot is after a feeding so there is a lot of particulate in the water.. I try to keep the water pristine as there are 4 crenicichla minuano in the main tank with them and they are really get to get HITH easily. It's a constant battle...

That tank looks awesome man. Were the males rough on the females ?

Nobody has paired up yet, but their parents were pretty mellow on each other from what I was told. A really tight bond.

Well wetspot no longer has any ceibals but mike at imperial tropicals does....decisions decisions


Duanes how do they spawn cave/rock/substrate ?
 
Mine spawned just bout anywhere, in an algae choked 50 gal outdoor tank, in a very shallow area of the pond, once they startthey're like convicts.


In the photo above, the water was maybe 6" deep, and they would lead the fry into areas maybe half that.

 
Once they pair and spawn is anyone else in the tank safe?? Or can they spawn and coexist in a community tank or small pond??
 
They can get quite aggressive with any other species that comes near.
The summer I had Gymnos and ceibals together in the pond, only ceibal fry, adult ceibals, and Gymnos came out in fall. The pond ws about 1000 gallons.
