Red devil/flowerhorn

But when I bought the fish it was the biggest out of like 20 fish! And all of the other ones which were about 1 inch and a half were orange! But this one still looks like this.........View attachment 990669

What are they labeled as? They are Ampholophous and yours just didnt peel (yet?). That's what it all seems like.. But dude. There is no FH here
 
I would not call it a late bloomer but from the sounds of it the dominant fish of the tank it was in. It seems that many when in a stressed environment seem to peel sooner by others accounts on other posts on here. Also not all peel/fade or they may wait until a year or more down the line then do it. There are also whats called barred strains of midas and red devils both found in the wild as well as in culture. I have a pair of F1 or F2 barred just about 5 inches now that i got from the breeder when they were 1/2 inch or a little more. Males a son of a B but the female is pretty laid back so far.
 
If you don't mind i will post pics of my barred rd here for reference for you. Female is going to be a red barred unless she does peel in the end and the male is most likely going to be a blk and white barred. Parent were on of each barred types and some of the fry peeled. If you did not know better the mom looks like an 8 inch female convict with red/orange between the belly blk bars.
