Red devil growth rate/feeding

give me a break..... don't try to turn a mistake I made into the topic. Your still the idiot with a 4 year old fish that is so stunted its unbelievable. You said your fish is 6" or whatever. From that pic it looks like its 4". Go ahead by yourself a 150 gallon. That fish will never grow and don't be surprised when it is floating up side down one day too.

A femal usually tops out at a foot. but in many cases it doesn't. When I was saying your fish should be much bigger I exagerated a bit by saying 12". Sue me.

But what do I know, I only have fish that take larger turds then your RD entire body.
 
I just bought a 6.5 inch red devil.beautiful fish always wanted one.right now he/she is in a 29gal but i just had to have him.I bought a 90gal for him/herbut it needs a little work before i can get it up and running.Do you think it will be alright for a few week's.with regular water changes.
 
MDH what was your point in posting that thread??? ya no kiding I know fish in wild can't grow to the same size as a tank. That doesn't mean we should all skip the big tanks and buy a dovii to put in a 10 gallon. We can't grow a fish to its wild size although we can do our bests to get as close as possible. We shouldn't be putting a fish that should grow 16" in the wild in a 30 gallon tank so it can only grow 6". Ever hear the saying "fish grow to the size of the tank"?? Well the truth is fish die to the size of their tank.

I don't understand your logic, if there really is any???:confused:

To be a responsible owner you need to make an attempt at making the best size tank possible.


piggy your fish will be fine. It may be stressed for a little while in that tank but as long as your keeping up with water quality your fish will be fine once you move him/her into the 90 gallon.
 
MDH I also should have mentioned, some of these guys say that tank size has minimal effect in growth. Well thats a load of crap. How many times I have walked past fish stores with those 15 gallon tanks and 30 gallon tanks and fish have there faces flat and backs arched because they grow all screwed up from the tank size. Then you have Oscars with HITH and and laying on there sides. But your right the tank has nothing to do with it. Ya your right if you have a 30 gallon and your doing 100% wc every day then maybe not so much.

My fish was older than that, in a 75g ber itself and never got bigger than 9".
 
I suggest a 55 or larger to anyone who wants to keep a rd with a 75-90 being ideal for a loan male but u have a small female a 55 will due for life. Whatever damage has been done to the fish from being in small tanks is not a big deal a healthy 7" female is fine just get her a 55 she might put on a inch or 2 in next years to come maybe.

Chill out. My point is, water quality has much more to do with "stunting" than size of tank. In your previous posts, you were flamming him for having the RD in the tank, but did you ever consider water quality here? I do agree, that an RD would be much better suited in a bigger tank, but I just wanted to get my point across about "stunting" myths.
