Red Devil...Help!

No need to be a jerk about it. I'm just curious to know why you keep spouting off about 87 degrees Fahrenheit as if it's some magical temperature that whisks ich away off to the Land of Oz.

No worries! I come from a family full of 'em!

Besides, it's hard to tell what context a statement is in when you're reading it as opposed to hearing it.

That article is so interesting...thanks for posting.

No need to be condescending.

I agree that I've never read anything about 87F being the magic number to kill ich. I too have raised the temp to 85 and successfully cured ich outbreaks. I usually recommend raising the temp to about 8-10 degrees from where it normally is instead of just saying that it needs to be raised to XX degrees.

the key, in my experience, is to remove whatever stressor is there causing the fish to be stressed. if the fish is stress-free then it's immune system should be strong enough to prevent ich from actually attaching to the fish. that's also where the salt comes in for a lot of people. aquarium salt is supposed to help reduce fish stress which will help clear up the ich outbreak. however, if we don't figure out what's causing the fish to be stressed in the first place, then once the salt concentration comes down the stress will most likely come back.

I learned it from a guy named Seedy (online username) who I consider to be extremely knowledgable. If you say 85 is fine I guess it is. :)

as of right now...she's really weak. However, the ich is coming off slowly... there's alot of cotton like strands peeling off of her scale... i believe thats from the aquarium salt that i added. i transfer her to a smaller tank, while i overdose the other tank with the ich...revenge for those ich...3x the dosage.

I can't help but feel you are doing more harm by rmoving the fish into different surrounding's. You're putting her through even more unnessercary stress. You should be treating the fish in familar surrounding's. As stated by Jason, it is believed that Ich is always present in any tank but will only attach itself to the fish in times of servere stress. Do you have a cave in the tank, where she can retreat for security? If not add one.

Cotton like thread's, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................ I have had no experience with this, but this could also be cause for concern, a fungal infection maybe. Hopefully someone can elaborate more ion this.
