Red Devil or Midas, vs a Jag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

I don't want to be overstocked but....

1) They are all Juvi's

2) I would like to add a Jag (most likely) and I do have a 45 gal for which I am planning on moving either the GT (placid) or the JD to as a show tank in my Living room, for they are both great fish, I am just trying to find a good mix.

3) What will not Change is the Tex (male) and the O (Somewhat bossy, he does chase for all for short spurts b4 & they get the message) are permanent residents.

Comments??

Thank you all in advance for your help! :D

Even if you move a JD or GT, a jag would likely be too agressive. Also, those fish grow fast, and wont be juvies for long. If they are 2-3" now, expect them to be 8-9" in 6 months. WHy dont you leave the 125 as it is, and get another fish for the 45, like a blue acara?

I think u can still add another juvi fish i have had more than that in a 125 as juvi's but it will not be a life long setup in about a year some fish will need a new tank or go back to the lfs and if u do add a jag or devil just be prepaired for a fatality at any time lol.

Would a Jag own my Tex?

Hard to say depends on the fish but i think they are evanly matched the determenating factor would be size imo. Just make sure all fish got a hideing spot and if u can remove a overly agro fish do so and the same goes for a weak 1. Just take them back to lfs it might take a couple trips and fish swaps but that would help prevent a death in your tank. lol

If you're lucky enough that they make it to full adults(which I doubt because of the other fish and the huge bioload adults of these fish would add) your jag will be 15" and probably a killing machine.

Yeah but why buy all these juvi's knowing you could have a fatality at any time and you'll have to get rid of most of them. Even if he moves the JD to the 45g(which is the only fish that tank is big enough for) then he'll still have a oscar/texas/gt in the 125g. Which is overstocked for adult fish. You'd have to get rid of two more fish from the 125g to make the jag work and then eventually that other fish would get taken out.

The point of the matter is that sooner or later you will have to decide which fish to keep. Sure, you can buy any juvi fish jaguar/midas/RD, etc..., but once all these fish matures it will decide its tankmates,... not you.
If I were you I would buy a male jag, and make sure its a male. If it allows tankmates, then its a bonus. If not, I would get rid of the fish it wont allow as tankmates. The good thing about jaguars is that it will allow tankmates if its not a threat (smaller size).
But most RD/midas are just plain nuts, less chance of tankmates.

Go for a male jag!!!:naughty:

Move the GT to the 45 and just keep what you have in the 125. The Texas will probably kill off the Oscar and JD when it's big enough.
