Red Devil or Midas, vs a Jag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I beleive the tank has a good chance of working as it is... But dont add anything. Buy a new fish for the 45 (one that stays under 8"), but dont alter the 125.

BUMP

I have been reading alot of Negative press about adding a Jag, People say to stay with what it is, but here is my thinking (yes, I am opening myself up to flames)

Taking the O back to the LFS
Gettin a Juvi Jag

Then moving maybe the GT (Saum??) or the JD to the 45.

I am attaching a Pic of my GT, is it a true GT??

It is a GT. I don't know what you mean by a "true GT"? And you are thinking now exactly what I was thinking when I was on page two of this thread :) Take the O back (your biggest waste producer) and get a jag. Probably need to move the JD to the smaller tank eventually and I would try to buy the jag a little smaller than the rest since they will grow faster than your other fish.

The TRUE green terror is not the goldsaum OR silversaum, which is what giankrio has. It is aquidens rivulatus, and is very unciimmin.

Well, it seems like you will do what you want no matter what we tell you, so go ahead and do it. It might work.

I think your setup will be fine as long as you remove the Oscar and do regular tank maintinence. Anytime you put aggressive fish who want their own territory you are taking a risk of losing fish, it's that simple. Even if you have two cichlids in a 5000 gallon tank. The odds go down but it still is a risk. The only way to find a combination that works is to try. There is no way of knowing for sure what fish will work together. some fish are generally more aggressive but there are always exceptions to the "norm". My biggest concern would the JD since they do not grow as fast and as large, but as long he/she can stand up for themselves it might work. You never know until you try it :)

I Thank you all for your advice! :D

FYI:

As of now the JD is tank boss, :mr-t: He is at least 1"-2" bigger and rounder than anyone else. He is a Big Male, :shark: but I have the 45 ready at any time.

Swami,

I am not trying to be disrespectful, but I am taking the opinion of many, not a few, and I have had success in the past. As one member posted "No matter how many years you have in this area, every day is a chance to learn from other people & the experiences!"

So, No, I will do what I feel is best for the Tank, Not "What I want anyway" as well as take your advice as well as others, there are many variying opinions.

and I will quote Mike Ditka:

"In life, opinions are like assh*les, Everyone's got one! That doesn't mean your right, I'm right, Whatever, but somewhere in the middle"

In the end go for a male jaguar. The is no comparison with a full grown jaguar and a full grown oscar, or jd or RD/midas.
If you feed you jaguar high quality pellets and krill the scales will even glow golden yellow, under the light. And with it flaring and swimming madly in the tank when the lights is on -- Is really something to see!!!:headbang2

That are about a 1", I have them in the grow out tank, trying to see which one I keep and the other a Buddy wants for his 125 when the get a touch bigger. I don't want to put them in "The Big Show" yet as I had some small cons in the GO Tank, and they were whupping it up on the Baby Jags. So now it is just the 2 Juvi's and when they are ready, Ill remove the O, and add the Jag I choose.

My Jag constantly tries to kill my JD.

The JD is a very fiesty fish however, and the jag has a battered up black and blue lower lip to prove it. The Jag is about 1-2" longer and of course its mouth is much bigger. Hopefully the JD will be alright in the long run. I have had him for about 3.5 years now and am quite fond of him!
