Well i found a pair of red devils at the lfs with fry and i was wondering if they would live in a 75gal or if that is too small for the pair. they both have real good color, male is about 6-7" long, female 5-6" long, and the fry look to be recently free swimming. really like them but don't know if the two would live long term in my 75. right now they are in a 20 gallon and look like they would really like my 75 ;)

so would you suggest just getting one of them?

in a 75?

I think a bigger tank would be way better especially fo a breeding pair!

but if you want them get them

I'm just thinking that if they are breeding in that 20 gallon they could do fine in my 75, but i also don't want to lose a fish in this situation cause they are both really good looking critters.

If you do end up getting them, it would be wise to get a divider for the tank. Once they spawn, if the fry are removed or don't survive the male will be ready to breed immeadetely, while the female will need a few weeks. In a 75g she will have limited hiding spots and no room to run.

Just because they spawned in a 20g, doesn't mean they will trive in a 75g. You must realize these fish are not full grown yet.

It would be a little tight but i think as long as you do some big water changes then you could do it. Get a divider just in case aggression becomes a problem. As long as you do this i believe that should work out alright!

I'd be thinking this way. Right now they are in a 20g, not good. I have a spare 75g, much more apporopriate. If i don't get them, someone with a 55g will get them anyway.

They'll be fine in the 75g by themselves, for quite some time. Just be sure to keep a divider on standby.
