Red Devil really getting on my nerves!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No harsh feelings. Hope you get that monster eating. He is very nice looking. Oh by the way, where did you get him from?

DUH!!!!Try the dither route too....A dozen or so Danios....Ah heck here's my list for good(inexpensive) dithers:
Tiger Barbs--->top Dither of all...20 for $5.00
Danios
Tetras-->Neon or Cardinal(whatever you can afford)
Congo Tetra---->Pricey for a dither but I've done it(in a 300g)
Remember, too, that fish in the wild do not get the chance to eat everyday....DO you even know if your fish is wild, F0, or what???You got yourself a young brat there bro....Personally, my Midas Devil grew from 2 inches to a thick 9 inch in 11 months....You've kept many of the same species before, so you know what to expect....The little guy is just being stubborn or some worm gots him by the balls....Nice fish anyways, saw your video and loved his responsiveness....

My devils are aggressive eaters but i think it is because we give alot of different variety..try schrimp pellets, freeze dried shrimp pellets..cichlid food etc..maybe frozen silversides once in awhile.. and the bottom line is all fish have different personalities..but it is true about the water purity..maybe try a little garlic to stimulate his appetite..good luck..he is worth it.

I had the same problems with my fishes before. I am a flowerhorn breeder and from what I see on the pictures your tank is low you need to raise the stand so when you aproach the tank your hips should be the same level as the stand. the fish gets scared and he gets traumatize so he will eats very skittish and darting for food. also avoid wearing bright colored clothes when you passed by infront of the tank red, blue and yellow colors are not good it makes the fish jumpy especially red. try this two methods and it will work. I had may cases like this when I have to move a very friendly flowerhorn to my lower tank and he or she would become skittish.

This is probably the 5th or 6th RD I've grown out to this size and I have never had one that is so timid that it wont take food from the top. Do people actually have Flowerhorns, Trimacs, Butticofferis, and Jags that do this?

.

My Flowerhorn has actually went after his pellets so hard that he jumped out of the tank twice! On the first time it happened he actualy but me. ( didnt hurt, but it surprized the heck out of me!) :WHOA:

your fish doesn't look like it's starving so that's good.

i wouldn't expect a midas to be so shy when it comes to food?? hopefully he comes around

Yeah np man. Maybe I was the assclown for acting like that, I dunno. LOL :ROFL:

I just got him from a local LFS that specializes in Central American Cichlids.

You know, you arn't the first peson to tell me about the "low tank thing". Yes the top of my tank just comes to my chest with me standing besides it. There may be some truth to this but unfortunately I'm not going to bother because I am looking towards getting a 90 to a 115 gallon in about 8 months as it is, and I'm probably going to either sell my tank or use it for a firemouth pair, or angelfish for mom and pops. So it probably wouldn't make too much sense to strip down the entire tank and cycle it again just to add a foot of height imo.

I will however keep this in mind when I pick up my 90-115 tho. :)

yeah I am positively right on this one it happened to me many times already. but since you are moving him to a bigger tank just bare with him or her for now dont get rid of it coz' it is a nice fish. It will be better later on when you move it.
