Not sure on the genetics, came from a Thai breeder last year.
Probably what most would refer to as Kamfamalau. Names don't mean a lot to me, bought this guy as I liked his look, and his personality.

Looks a lot better in person, sans the camera flash ....

Thanks everyone.

This fish arrived in very rough shape, bad case of hexamita/spironucleus, and to make matters worse a severe prolapsed rectum. There were times I wasn't sure that he would beat it all, but he's got great spirit & he turned around after a few weeks of some serious TLC.

One of my favourite fish now, acts like a big puppy. :)

Decent looking fish, ZZ is in there for sure though. Just very washed out. I bet at some times one of the fish that passed its gene down is once mixed with a ZZ. But overall, great fish...I like it. ;)

I agree, probably some ZZ in the genetic make up at some point.
In your opinion, would Kamfamalau be the correct term to use for this fish?

Thanks

I thought Kamfamalau carried some red monkey traits. This guys face really doesnt match that. Judging by the flowerline and pearls I would say this would be some form of a Tan King.

It can be called as a Kamfamalau if that is what you bought it as. A fish can be a mix of anything, but we only determine it by the most of its physical trait. Nothing more and nothing less.

Kamfamalau is just a Kamfa and a Kamalau/GM. Tan King is straight up Vietnamese Kamfa. Not sure of what is the fertility rate with Tan King and I highly doubt this fish have any TK in it(flowerlines and pearls doesn't determine it being a TK, it's the overall of the fish itself), but all I know is that King Diamond have the highest fertile rate compare to all other Kamfa(but no where close to a GM or ZZ fertility rate). From my understanding, KD is just a Kamfa from Thailand mixed with Tan King.
FYI - A Kamfa and another Kamfa is most likely unable to breed. Even if both male and female is fertile, for some reason the genetic just isn't compatable.
