red dovii gender id explained

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The larger the fish, the easier to spot the difference. Common sharp dorsal fin feature sometimes is not an indicator that fish is male in red dovii. Females may develop it too. Same applies to dots in dorsal/anal fins. Females may have those dots too. All white male dovii may not have dots at all. Placing fish together in a tank and observing behavior is also helpful but adding clear devider will ensure they do not damage each other as it takes time to adjust to the environment. When in the tank, breeding behavior takes place such as shaking heads at each other, moving gravel around as to show place where to lay eggs. If you got 2 males or 2 females sure sign they would just attack each other non stop which may indicate they are same gender. On rare occasions you may get a female and male that are not compatible with each other or not fertile. Venting fish is best when it comes to id red dovii.

2 females can pair up which happened to me many times among egg layers. Time will tell if one lay fertile eggs to prove they are a heterosexual pair.
