I have a male dragon blood in my all male hap/peacock tank. He is about 4" and more of a flourescent orange, doesnt look as nice as Pkut's. He is about 4" and he is very peaceful, but my Aulonocara Baenschi is always picking on the dragonblood and starting fights with him.

The LFS near me sells something that looks kinda like a dragonblood but the guy who works there was telling me he thinks they are just hormoned, they come in really red at about 2" but he said they turn mostly white after a few weeks.

Love the glowing reds.....I would find a way to get them even if that meant I would have to sell a few of my long term african residents in my tank.....they are just stunning...

Hello,
I know the brother in law of the German first-breeder of the Firefish by person and saw his Firefish and they are really that red.
The firstbreeder lives 30minutes from me away and on his homepage are all details about how he bred them (but in German).
The first step to Firefish was a Aulonacara x Pseudotropheus Hybrid.
But his kind of Firefish u can only get at breeders here, the ones in the stores are imported from Asia or Eastern Europe.
And the Firefish ain´t a straight kind, even with the best breeders u have some not so beautifull red babys in a batch.
Thats why millions of different kinds are called firefish or what else.

The ones called Dragon Blood I saw too in a store they were unreal pink.
After a few weeks they turned out white albinos ;)
Don´t know if painted by injections or with really much colour-food.

LadyBarbara001, My present colony is about 18 months old right now. I have had a few different strains of these Firefish/Dragonblood type of fish. I have kept this one because, it is by far the nicest one that I have come across so far. I have kept a few specimens of the previous strains that I used to breed.
I am going to keep selectively breeding this strain. Thank you for the nice compliments on them.
