YA..i had a baby eastern painted turtle forever with a sub and HOB filter and the water was always crystal clear and water perimeters where perfect.
Filtration and water changes are key.

don't forget about calcium suppliments and a UV lights, or you're going to have a turtle with some serious shell problems.

suggestion- canister filter - Stays out of your turtles way and is easy to clean. As long as you don't put your turtle in a fish bowl, filter the water and it will be clean, just like a fish tank.
