About an inch or two of moist substrate and a good hide box will be fine. They don't need super deep soil or anything.

any take on if dubai roaches would be too big? should i stick with something like turkish?

Dubias should be fine. If you start a colony, you can always pick out the smaller ones any ways.

I'd think that a naturalistic set up would be a better option, though it would appear that they do not utilise it.

ive already set up a naturalistic setup its 47 x 17 land on both ends and a pond in the middle with a bridge across. ill get some pics up later today.

i also have a "rain system" hooked up to go off 4 times a day for 4 minutes each time.
