Finally after a long wait, they finally spawned!! I'm not sure how many eggs but now its just a waiting game. Especially since i'm leaving for a weeks vacation.. Should i just let nature take its course or should i do something for my extened absence?

Nice pair! Especially the male!

VERY NICE!!! you have a great pair there, CONGRATS on the spawn! if i were you though i would put some egg crate in there and separate them while you are gone, just in case one of them decides to go psycho on the other when the fry hatch or something, that way you don't have to worry about possibly coming home to a dead fish festae can be kind of bi-polar when it comes to their babies haha

so far in the 2-3 months I've had them there has been no aggression... luckily my neighbor is going to watch them for me...

My pair was togather 18 mths before there was any problems. And it only takes a few min. for serious damage to take place

AMEN TO THAT BRO. MY SPAWNING PAIR HAD A FIGHT SUNDAY WHICH LEFT HER DEAD.......THIS IS THEIR 4TH SPAWN AND HE KILLS HER WTF:irked:. IF I WERE YOU ID TAKE THE ADVICE AND DIVIDE THEM UNTILL YOUR RETURN. LOOK AT IT AS PEACE OF MIND INSURANCE.;)

Separating a pair after a spawn is most definitely the right thing to do in most cases. If the pair is in a very large tank with other fish, then the pair bond can grow stronger protecting their investment. However, if the pair is alone in a tank, then it's probably a better idea to remove the male. My previous spawns have almost always led to the female beating the crap out of the male.

My current spawn is the same. The beast of a male was getting his arse kicked by the much smaller female. He is currently solo in a 90.

The males tend to beat up their female mates a little bit later after a spawn. Just my experience with breeding festaes...
