Have you ever kept red parrots with any other fish?

I want to keep them with some cichlids but I read that they get bullied on...
What about kribensis and oscars?

I have a male & female. They bite me not the other fish. They get aggressive when they are laying eggs, as any fish would. I have gouramis, red tail black sharks, bala sharks, distocodamis, barbs, danio's, ruby shark, clown loach, one very small ID, and a few others that I dont know what their name is. They all get along great.

yep the cute puffy ones!!
why do they puff their cheeks?
I've seen them do it to each other; is it fighting or a mating ritual?

are they better as single, pairs, or schools?
has anybody kept them with any other cichlidsa?(like i said, oscars?)

Ive seen them with oscars before and they look happy, Ive seen with arowana also, they cant do much dammage because of there mouth doesnt shut all the way, I think they can go with about anything that doesnt injure them.

my blood parrot is with these fish with no problems, infact she bullies most the other fish:
silver aro
spotted gar
3 severum cichlids
clown knife
gibbiceps pleco
ornate bichir

she has also been with oscars before, infact my oscar i used to have and her were buddies, they never left each others side. she now is buddies with my 16" clown knife. she lays eggs and wont let any other fish whithin 2 feet of the eggs, but the ck and her share a cave with the eggs. she has been with fish from 2" to 20" and i have never had a problem, that is unless im doin a water change while there are eggs in the tank, then she constantly is attacking my hand.

the 2 males in the photo above have lived with an albino oscar and a red oscar ... the 2 males are fighting for the female in the picture.

They (the 2 males) have lived with oscars, cory's, a very small flower horn, a bichir, rope fish, red bay snooks, arowana, severums, jelly beans, convicts, gourami's, clown loach's, black ghost knife, and even a couple goldfish feeders that survived.

oh so fighting is the reason they puff up?
what about the ones at the fish store where they're constantly looking at you and have their cheeks puffed?

what are you guys feeding them?

That is just how they look. Fat cheeks and a mouth that won't close all the way.

Unless you mean flaring gills. They do that to make themselves look bigger and more intimidating to their opponent.

Mine like to protect eggs/nests and will attack anything that comes near them when the tubes are out. I have two females and they share the same pot. They may not have biting mouths but they can still defend their turf pretty well. Other than egg laying time (about once a month for 2-3 days), they are pretty docile.
