I can't say what your prob is, but I did medicate my Sev. A day after my last post here, he was spitting food and not swimming around as much. I gave him a two 1/2 hour meth blue baths 12 hours apart. I then gave him a 1 hour bath in ParaGuard 24 hours later.
His breathing is much less labored and he is eating like a pig again with no spitting. I'm watching my other fish closely.
I would continue doing what you're doing. You apparently have plenty of aeration, so I don't know. If they don't improve once your tank stabilizes I would consider meds or some other treatment.
