If you have done everything quickly and conditioned your water, I don't see how the "cycledness" of you tank would be affected.

What I didn't get is why you have done this and whether the gar was in the old water before you have done a merely ~100% water change.
Yes the water is conditioned and I did a 100 percent change because the cichlids that were inside had made everything including the sand filthy so I took the cichlids out rehomed them and filled it back up with conditioned water and the next day put the gar in, did that make more sense and the reason I was talking about cycling was because I got a small ammonia spike
 
Well, it can be simple - if you do read ammonia or nitrite (by a good liquid test kit), then your gar would be expected to sulk. If not, then not.

If it's been within a week or two since you got the gar, it may still be adjusting, hence, no or little appetite.
