I don't know I'd like to see these fish sold to licensed keepers only who can prove they have at least 1000 spare gallons of water per RTC regardless of the size of the fish at sale. That said I didn't get my RTC's until I had 2000 gallons each available.
Be careful with him. I had one in my 55 gallon tank it will eat anything in can as soon as they get big enough. I had a 5" one eat 2 4" Bichir. Plus they get huge. So I went with a Striped Raphel Cat better fit for 55 gallon. good luck
